We start with an optional gentle 3km walk along the river. Beautiful indigenous forest, ancient trees, huge tree ferns, arum Lilly's, mushrooms and fungi are waiting for you.
Explore some of the old shafts dug by the miners along the route. At the half way mark we come to a little waterfall and swimming hole where we then turn back to the Jubilee Creek picnic site. Following a brief rest and some light refreshments, we take a short drive up to the old Millwood mining village where nothing much remains except for the old processing plant and some old shafts. Mother Nature has taken over and the forest is growing back.
We then we visit Mother Holly's Mining museum, see all the old pictures of the mines, the village, the old woodcutters equipment and some old mining relics. Following the visit to the museum there is an optional extra addition to the tour of a fully guided walk through the main Bendigo Tunnel (about 150m) which is operated and run by the Millwood Gold Mine Society followed by the best tea and scones/lunch you have ever tasted. This visit to the old mine gives an awesome insight to the lives the old miners used to live.
